LIBERIAN FOREIGN MINISTER ON SECRET MISSION TO EQUATORIAL GUINEA?

Date:

Liberia’s Foreign Minister Dee-Maxwell Kemayah has flown on a secret diplomatic mission to Equatorial Guinea. Foreign Minister Maxwell Kemayah finds himself caught in the intricate web of international politics and clandestine maneuvering, after skipping the very important United Nations General Assembly in New York.

Documents obtained by Smart News Liberia shows that underneath the veil of diplomatic protocol, the foreign minister embarked on a covert journey to Equatorial Guinea, a country known for its autocratic rule and rich oil reserves.

The stage was set during the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA), where world leaders gathered to discuss global issues. Minister Kemayah, however, had devised a plan that would take him far away from the UNGA proceedings. Citing an ailment, he claimed to be undergoing treatment in London, successfully deceiving many with his pretense of ill health, sources from Liberian Ministry of Foreign Affairs said.

“Unbeknownst to the public, Minister Kemayah’s true intentions lay elsewhere. A carefully crafted Note Verbal at the Liberian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, exposed Kemayah’s mission was prompted by a telephone call between President George Weah and the President of Equatorial Guinea. The contents of their conversation remained a closely guarded secret”, top sources.

The office of the permanent secretary of the President of Equatorial Guinea has confirmed the Liberian foreign minister’s trip.

Minister Kemayah slipped away unnoticed from Monrovia, boarding a plan bound for Malabo, the capital of Equatorial Guinea via Accra, Ghana. Accompanied by a trusted aide, he embarked on his clandestine journey, leaving behind a country unaware of the diplomatic maneuverings taking place.

Liberia heads for elections on October 10. The veil of secrecy surrounding his visit was tightly upheld, as even some top officials at the ministry remained oblivious to the unfolding events.

Behind closed doors, Minister Kemayah is supposed to engage in a meeting with the enigmatic dictator of Equatorial Guinea, Teodora Obiang Nguema Mbasogo, whose iron-fisted rule had long been a subject of international scrutiny.

Brief contents of the Note Verbale: “The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Liberia presents its compliments to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation and Francophone Affairs of the Republic of Equatorial Guinea, and has the honor to inform that based on a phone conversation between H.E. Dr. George Manneh Weah, President of the Republic of Liberia and H.E. Mr. Teodoro Obiang Nguema Mbasogo, President of the Republic of Equatorial Guinea on Saturday, September 6, 2023, H.E. Dr. George Manneh Weah, President of the Republic of Liberia will dispatch H.E. Amb. Dee-Maxwell Saah Kemayah, Sr., Minister of Foreign Affairs and Dean of the Cabinet of the Republic of Liberia to Malabo, Equatorial Guinea on Sunday, September 24, 2023 to meet with H.E. Mr, Teodoro Obiang Nguema Mbasogo, President of the Republic of Equatorial Guinea, and deliver a Special Message from H.E. Dr. George Manneh Weah, President of the Republic of Liberia, as agreed by our Two (2) esteemed Presidents during their aforesaid phone conversation.

In view of the abovementioned, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Liberia kindly requests the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation and Francophone Affairs of the Republic of Equatorial Guinea to please provide all relevant courtesies to H.E. Amb. Dee-Maxwell Saah Kemayah, Sr., Minister of Foreign Affairs and Dean of the Cabinet of the Republic of Liberia and Delegation (i.e. Foreign Minister Kemayah’s Special Aide.’

Liberians are shocked Minister Kemayah who was declared ill and undergoing treatment in a London clinic would skillfully navigate the waters of diplomacy. The note verbale says the Foreign Minister is due back in Monrovia on Tuesday.

Critics of the foreign minister says he was not sick though, but only skipped the UNGA for fear of being arrested on alleged rape allegations in the US, which he has continuously denied.
