PROGRESS STEADY ON NEW GOVERNMENT HOSPITAL IN BUCHANAN, GRAND BASSA COUNTY

Date:

GRAND BASSA CO., LIBERIA – Construction of the new Government Hospital in Buchanan, Grand Bassa County, is advancing steadily, marking a significant step towards improving healthcare accessibility in the region.

Funded jointly by ArcelorMittal Liberia and the government, the project is managed by the Liberia Agency for Community Empowerment (LACE) and is estimated to cost US$3.5 million.

The hospital complex comprises twenty-one buildings, including key facilities such as the surgical ward, laboratory, pediatric unit, medical in-patient department (IPD), laundry, male and female wards, emergency ward, and triage area. This new facility aims to address the shortcomings of the current hospital on New York Street, which lacks adequate space and has been damaged by fire multiple times.

Progress on the construction is evident, with the elevation of the first eight structures well underway. This development signals a promising transformation in healthcare delivery for Buchanan residents.

The impact of this project extends beyond construction, as ArcelorMittal Liberia is also supporting the government in building another essential healthcare facility in Seykimpa, Nimba County. This collaborative effort underscores a shared commitment to strengthening Liberia’s healthcare infrastructure and ensuring access to quality medical services in even the most remote communities.

ArcelorMittal Liberia views its investment in healthcare as more than just philanthropy, believing in the positive impact of a healthy population on economic growth and social progress. The company emphasizes that improving access to quality healthcare not only reduces the burden of disease but also empowers individuals to lead more productive lives and contribute to sustainable development.

ArcelorMittal Liberia has a history of supporting Liberia’s healthcare infrastructure, including providing assistance during the Ebola virus outbreak, demonstrating its commitment to building resilient communities and promoting sustainable development.
