HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES SEEKS COMPREHENSIVE REPORT ON KINJOR PROTESTS FROM LIBERIA NATIONAL POLICE

Date:

MONROVIA – The House of Representatives has called for a comprehensive report from the Liberia National Police regarding the recent protests in Kinjor, which tragically resulted in the loss of several Liberian lives.

The decision was prompted by a communication from Bong County Electoral District #7 Representative Foday Fahnbulleh, in which he expressed concerns about the police officers’ actions during the protests. Fahnbulleh stated that the officers claimed to have acted in self-defense, leading to the fatalities among the protesters.

“There have been concerns raised by citizens regarding the validity and credibility of the evidence relied upon by the police to exonerate themselves and justify their actions,” Fahnbulleh’s communication noted.

Fahnbulleh emphasized the importance of the House of Representatives intervening and establishing a specialized committee to investigate the police officers’ actions thoroughly. He believed that such an investigation would help ensure transparency, accountability, and the delivery of justice for the victims and their families.

In response to the communication, the House of Representatives instructed Chief Clerk Mildred Sayon to write to the Liberia National Police, requesting a comprehensive report on the Kinjor protests. The police are expected to present the report to the House of Representatives within a period of two weeks.

The House’s decision reflects its commitment to upholding transparency and accountability in matters of public interest. The investigation into the Kinjor protests aims to provide clarity on the events that transpired and to address the concerns raised by citizens regarding the actions of the police officers involved.
