FOUR LIVES LOST IN DEVASTATING GBARNGA HIGHWAY COLLISION

Date:

GBARNGA, BONG COUNTY – A harrowing accident on the Gbarnga-Phebe Highway claimed four lives on the evening of Friday, December 20, 2024. The multi-vehicle crash, which occurred near the old “Place To Be” Entertainment Center, involved a Toyota T100 pickup truck transporting raw rubber and two taxis heading in opposite directions.

According to eyewitnesses, the tragedy unfolded when the Toyota pickup, en route to Monrovia, collided with a taxi approaching from the Cuttington University area. The impact caused the pickup to veer out of control, slamming into a second taxi carrying passengers from Monrovia to Gbarnga.

The second taxi erupted into flames, leaving four occupants—three adults and a child—burned beyond recognition. The victims, identified as Musu Gayflor, Victor Tumed, Sannie Gbanamue, and an unnamed infant, were residents of Panta District, Bong County. As per family requests, the deceased were laid to rest shortly after the incident.

Three other passengers remain hospitalized in critical condition at Phebe Referral Hospital. They have been identified as Mamie Mulbah, Mary Kollie, and Rebecca Koko. One additional injured individual was discharged earlier today.

The driver of the taxi that caught fire was treated at C.B. Dunbar Hospital but may require transfer to Phebe Hospital for advanced medical evaluations.

The Toyota T100 pickup, registered under plate number A69307, was driven by Jackson B. Singbeh. The first taxi, operated by Rev. Fr. Harris Woart, had passengers who fortunately escaped unscathed. However, the driver of the second, burned-out taxi has yet to be identified.

Local authorities have launched an investigation into the crash. No arrests have been made as police await the recovery of injured drivers for questioning. Preliminary reports indicate that the second taxi was carrying seven passengers at the time of the accident.
