KOGAR SECURES MDR TICKET FOR NIMBA SENATORIAL BY-ELECTION

Date:

GOMPA CITY, NIMBA COUNTY – Representative Samuel G. Kogar has been selected as the Movement for Democracy and Reconstruction (MDR) candidate for the upcoming senatorial by-election in Nimba County. Kogar, who represents Nimba’s Electoral District #5 in the House of Representatives, was declared the party’s nominee by white ballot during a primary held on Saturday, March 1, 2025, in Gompa City.

The by-election comes in the wake of the death of the late Senator Prince Y. Johnson, the MDR’s founding father and a dominant political figure in Nimba. Kogar’s nomination was unchallenged, reflecting broad support within the party as it seeks to maintain control of the seat previously held by Johnson.

In his acceptance remarks, Kogar asserted that the MDR remains the only legitimate political force in Nimba and dismissed efforts by other parties to establish a foothold in the county. “MDR is the party of Nimba County,” Kogar declared. “Any new party attempting to emerge here is working against the legacy of Senator Prince Johnson. Whether it is YDC, WTO, or any other political group, anyone pushing a new agenda in Nimba is simply creating confusion.”

Ahead of the primary, senior MDR member Kelvin D.J. Mattaldi voiced the party’s determination to retain the Senate seat. In a social media post, Matadi expressed confidence that the candidate emerging from the process would carry forward Senator Johnson’s vision and receive unified backing from the Unity Party Alliance. He described the MDR’s chosen candidate as a representative of the people of Nimba rather than a figure confined to party lines.

Kogar’s candidacy was further strengthened by the endorsement of Madam Arhifa Boyidee, the widow of the late Senator Prince Johnson. In February, Madam Boyidee publicly backed Kogar as the best choice to continue her husband’s legacy, following extensive consultations with family members and other key figures. She portrayed Kogar as a competent and experienced leader capable of advocating for the people of Nimba County.

Addressing speculation surrounding her potential candidacy, Madam Boyidee ruled out any personal ambition to contest the seat. She emphasized that her endorsement of Kogar was rooted in preserving her late husband’s legacy and ensuring that Nimba’s interests remain protected. She urged the people of the county to unite behind Kogar, expressing confidence in his ability to provide strong leadership.
