MONROVIA – The chairman emeritus of the National Patriotic Party, Chief Cyril Allen has described members of the National Legislature as irresponsible individuals who do not mean well for the country.
Chief Cyril Allen speaking to journalists recently in Monrovia also condemned the two separate endorsements done on the ground of Capitol Hill by some employees and staffers of the National Legislature, describing the actions by lawmakers and their staffers as a misuse of the public facility.
It can be recalled, last week some employees of the Capitol Building under the banner Legislative Staff Association endorsed the opposition Unity Party standard-bearer and former Vice President Joseph Boakai and his running mate, Senator Jeremiah Koung’s ticket for October 10, 2023, presidential and legislative elections. Chief Allen described the endorsements by two separate groups as a mockery to the National Legislature for which he called on the voting public to take note of the actions of some lawmakers and their staffers.
He referred to some of the lawmakers as groups of incompetent individuals and irresponsible people who do not deserve to return to Capitol Hill, adding that the chamber of the House of Representatives is intended for law-making, oversight and representation and not a place for singing and dancing.
“I am an elderly statesman, my views do not represent any political party or institution,” Chief Cyril Allen told journalists.
In another development, the NPP chairman emeritus has frowned on the government of Liberia for contracting a private company to distribute farming materials to Ministry of Agriculture sub-breaches across the country.
According to him, the money given to the International Company to distribute farming materials should have been used to buy some pickup trucks, or given to the Ministry of Agriculture sub-offices across the country for operations.
He said the US$75,000 given to the International Company to carry out the distributions of farming materials across the country was unacceptable, saying, “The country is rich and blessed with good soil which can grow anything when utilized by the requisite authorities through empowerment and sound decisions making.”
