GRAND GEDEH CO., LIBERIA – Just a week after soldiers of the Armed Forces of Liberia brutally beat a citizen in Lofa County, another incident of violence has emerged. Two AFL officers have reportedly brutalized Derrick Krayee, a citizen of Toe Town, Grand Gedeh County.
Recently, a similar incident occurred in Lofa County when AFL soldiers severely beat Jeremiah Beyan on May 13, 2024. This followed an accusation by Pastor Kevin Morris of the Harvest Fellowship Church in Voinjama, who reported Beyan to the AFL soldiers for allegedly stealing the church keyboard.
However, according to our Correspondent in Grand Gedeh, the incident occurred around 5:45 PM on Wednesday evening on the main street of Toe Town. The AFL officers involved were identified as Darius Jolopah and an unnamed colleague. According to reports, the altercation began when Derrick Krayee addressed Officer Jolopah by his name, which Jolopah interpreted as disrespect.
Kraye’s simple greeting escalated quickly. Derrick reported that after calling Officer Jolopah by his name, Jolopah responded angrily with an insult. When Derrick inquired about the reason for the insult, the situation intensified. An intense exchange of words ensued between Krayee and Jolopah. The altercation escalated further when the unidentified AFL soldier struck Derrick in the face with his gun, causing a deep cut.
This incident highlights a troubling pattern of violence and misuse of authority within the AFL, raising concerns about the treatment of citizens by military personnel.
