CLLR. KANIO GBALA APPOINTED CDC CAMPAIGN SPOKESMAN

Date:

MONROVIA – During an elaborate Press Conference which saw the naming of more than 100 staunch partisans to its national campaign team, the ruling Coalition for Democratic Change appointed Cllr. Kanio Bai Gbala as its National Campaign Spokesman and head of its media team. It is anticipated that Cllr. Gbala will oversee all communication efforts of the CDC during the 2023 elections.

Many political pundits and talkshow hosts were positive and effusive in their comments about the appointment of Cllr. Gbala. They argued that Cllr. Gbala’s seems the absolute right fit for the job given his excellent communication skills, solid legal expertise and credibility both in and out of the CDC.

Cllr. Gbala is a development practitioner and public intellectual with many years of experience working for local and international NGO’s in and out of Liberia. Prior to his resignation, he most recently served as the Vice Chairperson at the Liberia  Anticorruption Commission (LACC). He holds both Bachelors and Masters in Law and is an Assistant Professor of Law at the Louis Arthur Grimes School of Law.

    https://www.tellerreport.com/news/2021-09-01-liberia–series-of-accusations-of-corruption-within-port-authorities—france-24.Hk-YNoga-t.html DAILY OBSERVER Aug 31 2021

According to FPA, Kanio Bai-Gbala along with the Managing Director of the National Port Authority (NPA), Bill Tweahway, the deputy Comptroller, Christian Brownell, and Hamed Sikidi Fofana, the former Executive Director at the Central Bank of Liberia, established a company and allegedly used funds from the port and purchased a loading machine (966 Loader) for their company and awarded the loading contract to themselves.

“Bill Tweahway has 60% share in the company, ” Kanio Bai-Gbala was given 10% share, Deputy Comptroller Christian Brownell was given 15% share; while Hamed Sidiki Fofana was given 15% share. So, from the time the company was founded, they had a single machine, and each time a vessel is in port, it will be used to do the loading and their invoices will be sent to them,” a source within the Freeport of Monrovia informed FPA.

Hahaha CDC has run out of ideas. Whatever happened to the investigation of these folks who duped the National Port Authority of more that 0.5m USD. This corruption scandal was partly the reason why the US Gov’t put Bill Tweahway on sanctions in the first place.

HERE IS WHAT THE US GOV’T SAID ABOUT THE VERY SAME N.P.A SCANDAL. Aug 20, 2022

Bill Twehway (Twehway) is the current Managing Director of the National Port Authority (NPA). Twehway orchestrated the diversion of $1.5 million in vessel storage fee funds from the NPA into a private account. Twehway secretly formed a private company to which, through his position at the NPA, he later unilaterally awarded a contract for loading and unloading cargo at the Port of Buchanan. The contract was awarded to the company less than a month after its founding. Twehway and others used family members to obfuscate their own involvement in the company while still benefitting financially from the company.

Twehway is being designated for being a foreign person who is a current government official who is responsible for or complicit in, or has directly or indirectly engaged in, corruption, including the misappropriation of state assets, the expropriation of private assets for personal gain, corruption related to government contracts or the extraction of natural resources, or bribery.
