MONROVIA – The Free Conscious Independent and Objective Thinkers of Liberia have strongly criticized Senator Amara Konneh’s recent demand for the resignation and prosecution of Minister of State for Presidential Affairs, Sylvester Grigsby. The group described Senator Konneh’s actions as unjustifiable, malicious, and disrespectful, accusing him of attempting to damage Minister Grigsby’s reputation without valid reasons.
In their press statement, the Free Thinkers emphasized the constitutional principle of the separation of powers and checks and balances, as outlined in Article 3 of Liberia’s 1986 Constitution. They argued that while these checks are vital, they should not be misused to spread false information.
The group pointed out Senator Konneh’s oversight in not inviting Minister Grigsby and NASSCORP’s Director General, Dewitt vonBallmoos, for questioning before publicly calling for their resignation and prosecution. The Free Thinkers expressed disappointment at Senator Konneh’s hasty actions, noting his failure to follow due process and his eagerness to tarnish the reputation of a respected public official without proper investigation.
Addressing the allegations against Minister Grigsby, the Free Thinkers defended his request for NASSCORP’s assistance in purchasing five SUVs for President Joseph N. Boakai’s inauguration ceremony. They argued that this request fell under NASSCORP’s corporate social responsibility and did not breach any laws, aligning with the organization’s mission. The group urged Senator Konneh to act responsibly to avoid damaging the Liberian Senate’s reputation.
Recognizing Minister Grigsby’s commitment to accountability, transparency, and good governance, the Free Thinkers praised President Boakai’s decision to appoint him. They expressed their full support for Minister Grigsby and condemned any efforts to undermine him without concrete evidence.
Concluding their statement, the Free Thinkers called on Senate Pro Temp, Hon. Nyonblee Karnga-Lawrence, to dismiss Senator Konneh’s request for Minister Grigsby’s resignation and subsequent prosecution, citing its lack of factual foundation. They advocated for a comprehensive investigation into the allegations before any further actions are considered.
The Free Conscious Independent and Objective Thinkers of Liberia’s strong response underscores their dedication to preserving justice, fairness, and accountability in Liberia’s political arena.
