The Director-General of the National Public Health Institute of Liberia (NPHIL), Jane A. Macauley, and the Country Director of WaterAid Liberia, Chuchu Selma, unveiled the National WASH (Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene) in Healthcare Facilities Roadmap on Friday, April 11, 2024. The launch took place at the Corina Hotel in Sinkor, marking a significant milestone in healthcare infrastructure and hygiene.
Director-General Jane A. Macauley emphasized the critical importance of the roadmap in healthcare settings. She highlighted its potential to significantly reduce the spread of diseases, protect healthcare workers, and ensure the safety of patients visiting healthcare facilities. Macauley expressed gratitude towards WaterAid Liberia and other partners for their invaluable support in the development of the roadmap.
Chuchu Selma, the Country Director of WaterAid Liberia, commended the Technical Team for their dedication and expertise in crafting the document. Selma urged the Government of Liberia and its partners to prioritize the sustainability of the roadmap. He reaffirmed WaterAid Liberia’s commitment to collaborating closely with NPHIL to ensure the roadmap’s successful implementation.
The primary goal of the WASH in Healthcare Facilities Roadmap is to enhance universal access to sustainable and adequate WASH services within healthcare facilities. By doing so, the initiative aims to improve the quality of healthcare delivery, reduce healthcare-associated infections, and safeguard the well-being of patients, healthcare workers, and the broader community.
The launch of this roadmap signifies a concerted effort by NPHIL and WaterAid Liberia to address critical gaps in healthcare infrastructure and hygiene practices. As the implementation phase begins, stakeholders will be closely monitoring progress to ensure that the roadmap’s objectives are met, ultimately leading to improved healthcare outcomes for all Liberians.
