BOMI COUNTY, LIBERIA – KNTV News reports that residents of Maher Town, located along the Tubmanburg to Monrovia highway, are expressing concern over strange sounds emanating from the Maher River bridge. Constructed in the 1970s, the bridge has a grim history, having been a site of violence during Liberia’s 14-year civil conflict.
In an interview with journalists, Coleman Gray, the town chief of the Maher Community, voiced his community’s fears. “Since last year, the bridge has been producing an unusual sound, which has instilled a sense of dread among us,” he said. Gray reported that the unsettling noises typically occur during the evening and night, noting that the situation appears to be worsening each day.
“This is the first time we have experienced such sounds from the Maher River bridge since its construction over sixty years ago,” Gray added. He emphasized the need for urgent action from the Government of Liberia, urging the Ministry of Public Works to conduct an inspection of the bridge’s structure to ensure its safety and prevent potential disaster.
