LIBERIA – The former ruling Unity Party has released on social media fresh photos of its standard bearer, Amb. Joseph N. Boakai.
The photos were posted today on the Unity Party Facebook page. The photos showed the UP’s standard bearer moving and chatting with some members of the UP. The photos also showed the former VP in his office…
In a Facebook post, the Unity Party said: “JNB will attend an endorsement program at the Unity Party’s Headquarters tomorrow, Thursday, January 19, 2023, at 1 pm. Come and interact with the leader of the rescue mission.
Smart News Liberia understands from a UP stalwart that the photos were posted to show UP’s partisans and followers of Mr. Boakai that there should be no doubt about the former VP’s health; and also to show political rivals that the former VP is set and is ready for the October 10, 2023, general and presidential election.
Recently, Amb. Boakai has been in the news over his ill health which sparked bitter political exchanges between the Unity Party, the Weah-led government, and the 2011 Nobel peace prize winner, Leymah R. Gbowee on the other hand.
The Weah-led government in a release on Friday, 13 January, said through the Ministry of Information Cultural Affairs and Tourism (MICAT), it was concerned about what it described as the ill health of former Vice President Boakai.
The government claimed in its release that it had initiated contact with family members of former Vice President Boakai and that it had offered to help in whatever way the family deemed necessary.
While Leymah R. Gbowee called on the Unity Party to according to her, “do the right thing” by allowing JNB to retire from politics and concentrate on his health.
The UP has since issued press statements condemning the Weah-led government and Madam Leymah Gbowee…
It’s easy to come out take a few pictures and throw jabs. For a man who will “assume” power at 83/84 years old and and turn over @ “90 years”, what is not so easy is for him to stay healthy and energetic for ANOTHER 6 years. Liberians are a completely different breed of people. For the record, It’s not just Leymah Gbowee that thinks Boakai is too old. It’s the majority of Liberians, and explains part of the reason he lost the first time. Not many young people were enthusiastic about an 80 year-old man becoming president. Liberia has a very youthful population and they definitely will not fall in line with this UP people/Urey/Costa conspiracy. Right now, it’s the senility of old age has clouded Boakai’s wisdom and patriotism. But the voters will have the last say, eventually.
