US EMBASSY COMMENDS PRESIDENT BOAKAI FOR SUPPORT OF WAR CRIMES COURT IN LIBERIA

Date:

MONROVIA, LIBERIA – US Embassy Chargé d’affaires Catherine Rodriguez has praised President Joseph Nyuma Boakai Sr for his support in establishing the War and Economic Crimes Court in Liberia. In a statement, Rodriguez said, “I commend President Boakai for taking this historic and courageous step to bring justice and accountability for the atrocities committed during the Liberian civil wars.”

The statement further reiterated the United States’ firm support for Liberia in this endeavor, stating that the US stands ready to assist all Liberians as they move forward with the establishment of the court.

The War and Economic Crimes Court is seen as a crucial step in addressing the injustices and human rights violations that occurred during Liberia’s civil wars. It is hoped that the court will help bring closure to victims and their families while also serving as a deterrent against future atrocities.
