MONROVIA, LIBERIA – The Judge of the Ninth Judicial Circuit Court in Bong County has dismissed a motion to strike filed by the lawyer representing the former administration of the Press Union of Liberia (PUL).
This decision, made by Judge J. Boima Kontoe, paves the way for Team Kanubah to proceed with their petition for declaratory judgment.
The motion to strike, which challenged the Amended Petition filed by the National Campaign Management Team of Julius Kanubah and Beatrice Sieh, was denied and dismissed by Judge Kontoe. The legal team of Team Kanubah justified the legality of the Amended Petition, leading to the dismissal of the motion as an unnecessary legal technicality.
This legal victory for Team Kanubah is significant, as it allows the Judge to now hear and adjudicate the petition for declaratory judgment concerning alleged fraud and violations of the PUL Constitution by the former leadership.
Furthermore, a Pre-Trial Conference has been scheduled for 26 February 2024 to explore the possibility of a settlement between the parties involved. Team Kanubah remains committed to finding a resolution with the guidance of their legal counsel and continues to engage with media and civil society stakeholders.
Team Kanubah urges its supporters and those interested in the democratic development of the PUL not to engage with any invitations from the former administration, emphasizing the absence of legitimate leadership since November 2022.
The dispute within the PUL underscores the ongoing legal battle and the efforts of Team Kanubah to uphold transparency and integrity within the organization.
