LIBERIA – In a decisive action to uphold accountability, the Office of Liberia’s First Lady, Madam Kartumu Y. Boakai, has suspended two staff members, Mr. Varfee Holmes and Mr. Lemuel Vah, for allegedly engaging in unauthorized fundraising activities. The suspension, which is effective immediately, will last for one month without pay.
According to a press release issued on Monday, January 20, 2025, the two staffers were accused of soliciting $4,000 from a parent in Liberia under the pretext of securing scholarships for the parent’s children to study in the United Kingdom. Upon investigation, both individuals returned the full amount to the parent.
Madam Boakai reiterated the importance of integrity and accountability within her office, emphasizing that all staff members must uphold the highest standards of conduct while serving the Liberian people.
The incident has generated concerns about ethical practices in governmental offices and calls for increased vigilance against misconduct. The First Lady’s Office reaffirmed its commitment to fostering transparency and professionalism in all its dealings.
