LIBERIA – Throngs of partisans of the ruling party (CDC), under the banner Disenchanted CDCians, have endorsed the presidential bid of Unity Party Standard Bearer, former Vice president Joseph N. Boakai.
The disenchanted members of the CDC, on Thursday, 19 January 2023, swarmed the UP’s Headquarters, on Broad Street, and openly declared support for the presidential bid of the Unity Party Standard Bearer, Ambassador Boakai.
During the endorsement ceremony which attracted a mammoth crowd including partisans and high-ranking members of the UP, as well as supporters of JNB, the Disenchanted CDCians disclosed that they were officially resigning, quitting, disassociating, and distancing themselves and members of their families from what they termed as “the failed Congress for Democratic Change (CDC) and its government that is run by thieves.”
The Disenchanted CDCians pointed out that their decision to quit the ruling party is firmly anchored on a biblical quotation, which states, “A wise man changes.”
According to the ruling party’s disenchanted members, for over 12 years, they sweated and bled for the CDC, and still remember the many struggles they underwent to ensure that the CDC and then Senator George Weah became President.
“Our lives and those of our families were constantly placed in danger, all for the promotion of this same failed CDC. We protested and rallied on many occasions with our comrades and partisans against the government of the Unity Party for a better Liberia, and today what we have is a failed state,” the Disenchanted CDCians lamented, in a written petition statement.
They added, “We cried for a Liberia where President Weah himself asked Liberians not to judge and measure him by the eloquence of his speeches, but by the quality of his decisions, but today all we have seen is the total opposite. Additionally, he assured Liberians that we will not be spectators in our own economy, but today we are nowhere near the stadium.”
“We see rampant corruption, with the disappearance of L$16 billion, the stealing of US$25 million in an unjustifiable mop-up exercise, in addition to the secret killing of auditors, lavish spending on foreign travels that has produced no economic returns, failure to provide the one million jobs annually as promised in the failed Pro-Poor Agenda for Prosperity and Development (PAPD).”
The Disenchanted CDCians emphasized that “As we near these important presidential and legislative elections,” the statement added, “every decision we make is cardinal, the evidence being the one we made in 2017 that has ruined the economic fabric of our country. Thank God for a rescuer and liberator in His Excellency.”
The ruling party disenchanted members stated that they see in the UP Standard Bearer, Ambassador Boakai, a statesman par-excellence, a man of integrity, and the right man with the kind of character Liberia needs as president.
“In view of the above, we have come on this 19th day of January 2023 to officially express our collective decision to join the Unity Party (UP) and pledge our support to H.E. Ambassador Joseph Nyuma Boakai’s Rescue Mission for Liberia.
Your Excellency, our decision to exit the CDC is deeply rooted in a passage of the Holy Bible that says ‘A wise man changes’. Therefore, from today onward, we join you to think Liberia, love Liberia, and together build Liberia,” the Disenchanted CDCians said.
The UP Standard Bearer, Ambassador Boakai, in response, welcomed the Disenchanted CDCians, as new members of the Unity Party, stating, “This, for me, is a huge demonstration of confidence reposed in the rescue mission.”
He told the new members of the UP, “As Captain of the team, your Rescue-One, I am upbeat that the time is now for this country to rise again from despair to a buoyant renaissance of hope.”
He added that he and the UP remain firmly focused on the months ahead, leading to the conduct of the 2023 elections, adding, “We must rescue this country together, this is my mission. Don’t sit back, join the rescue team and write your name in history.”
He then thanked those who turned out for the endorsement ceremony, indicating, “Let the word go forth, nothing fights destiny! Think Liberia, love Liberia, and together, build Liberia.”
