COURT HEARS CONCORD TIMES NEWSPAPER’S LAWSUIT AGAINST ARCELORMITTAL

Date:

MONROVIA – The Civil Law Court-B has held the preliminary hearing for the highly anticipated case involving Concord Times Newspaper and ArcelorMittal on Wednesday, July 19, 2023.

Concord Times Newspaper, a prominent Liberian media outlet, had filed a lawsuit against ArcelorMittal last year, accusing the steel giant of unlawfully shutting down its online version. Seeking damages exceeding US$10 million, the newspaper attributes its claim to the actions taken by ArcelorMittal.

The case will be heard at the Civil Law Court-B, where both Concord Times Newspaper and ArcelorMittal presented their respective arguments and evidence related to the matter. This initial hearing marks the beginning of what is a significant legal battle between the two parties.

The Press Union of Liberia has disclosed that it stands with the Concord Times throughout the litigation proceedings against a powerful global brand. It is important that ArcelorMittal operating in open societies respect rule of law which guides freedom of expression and the press to report on market successes and failures, the Union insists.

For further updates on the case between Concord Times Newspaper and ArcelorMittal, interested parties are encouraged to follow the official announcements from the Civil Law Court-B.
