AN EDITORIAL: GRAND KRU TECHNICAL COLLEGE’S COMMITMENT TO EXCELLENCE

Date:

The recent three-day workshop held by Grand Kru Technical College stands as a testament to its commitment to fostering excellence and innovation in education. Held from April 11-12, 2024, this event was more than just an academic gathering; it was a transformative experience for all involved.

Under the theme “Improving Workplace Efficiency: Train, Inspire and Equip,” the workshop aimed to equip participants with new skills, knowledge, and motivation. Senator Numene T.H Bartekwa, Chairman of the Grand Kru Legislative Caucus and University of Liberia Board of Trustees, set the tone with his inspiring words. His sentiments were echoed by Associate Professor Dr. Josephus M Gray, Dean of the Amos C. Sawyer College of Social Sciences and Humanities at the University of Liberia, who provided a comprehensive overview of the session.

The workshop’s success was a result of meticulous planning, preparation, and implementation. With approximately 150 attendees from Grand Kru, Maryland, and Montserrado, including students, faculty, and representatives from various sectors, the event was a melting pot of ideas and expertise.

The academic sessions, led by experienced facilitators like Dr. Gray and Vice Presidents Mr. P. Dan Bestman and Rev. P. Tenenso Brohdonyen, covered topics ranging from quality teaching and practical research to conflict resolution and professional development. These sessions not only introduced new teaching techniques but also emphasized the importance of practical skills and hands-on experience.

The Grand Kru Technical College’s transition from a TVET institution to a full-fledged Technical College in 2023 is a testament to its growth and ambition. Offering two-year Associate degrees in six major disciplines, the college has positioned itself as a leading educational institution in Southeastern Liberia. With plans to transition to Bachelor’s degree programs in the future, the college is poised for even greater achievements.

Established in February 2019 through an Act of the National Legislature of Liberia and overseen by a dedicated Board of Trustees appointed by former President Dr. George Manneh Weah, the college has made remarkable strides in a relatively short span of time.

The college’s motto, “Enlightening Minds to Unlocking Potentials,” encapsulates its mission to empower students and unlock their full potential. With a faculty comprising Bachelor, Master, and Ph.D. degree holders with extensive expertise both locally and internationally, the college offers a well-rounded educational experience.

In conclusion, Grand Kru Technical College’s recent workshop exemplifies its commitment to excellence, innovation, and community engagement. As the college continues to grow and evolve, it remains steadfast in its dedication to shaping the future of education in Liberia.
