MARYLAND CO., LIBERIA — The peaceful town of Karloken has been rocked by the mysterious disappearance of Anthony Wleh Toe, a 45-year-old resident who went missing after a church service on Sunday, July 14, 2024. Despite extensive search efforts, Mr. Toe has not been found.
Outgoing Statutory Superintendent Solomon Johnny and incoming Statutory Superintendent Peter Kumah have united to employ traditional investigative methods and community resources in the search for Mr. Toe. However, their efforts have yet to reunite him with his anxious family.
Mr. Toe was last seen on the evenings of July 13 and 14. Described as an average-built man with short brown hair and brown eyes, he left his home in Karloken City at approximately 10:00 PM on Sunday for a hunting expedition, according to his wife, Mrs. Arine Toe. “It’s unimaginable for me to spend days without him,” she said, expressing deep concern for her husband’s safety.
The Liberia National Police, Karluway District detachment, along with family and friends, have conducted an extensive search of the surrounding areas, but Mr. Toe remains missing.
The case took a darker turn with allegations of local witchcraft. Several individuals, including the High Priest of Konuso Town, the Zone 9 Chairperson of Karluway, and even Mr. Toe’s biological son, have reportedly confessed to involvement in his disappearance. These confessions have heightened community distress.
Family members and supporters are particularly troubled by failed promises from the alleged perpetrators, who had vowed to produce Mr. Toe alive on two separate occasions—Sunday, July 28, and Thursday, August 1. Neither date brought any resolution.
The situation has escalated, with the youth of Karluway District taking a strong stance. District Youth President Jacob Nyancie and the Concerned Youth of Karluway, led by Chairperson Gabriel Musu, have issued an ultimatum. They demand Mr. Toe’s return by today, August 2, or they will take unspecified actions to bring the district to a standstill until justice is served.
Gabriel Musu emphasized the community’s call for government intervention. “If Anthony W. Toe is not returned by 12 PM today, August 2, 2024, we will pursue legal action. We urge the government to arrest all those who have confessed to being responsible for Anthony’s disappearance,” Musu stated. He stressed that such incidents deter potential investors and instill fear among residents.
As the deadline approaches, the community of Karluway District anxiously awaits a resolution that will bring Mr. Toe back to his family and restore peace to their troubled town.
