MONROVIA, LIBERIA – Following his dismissal from the Ministry of Labour, Czar Palay, the Youth Chairperson of the Movement for Democracy and Reconstruction (MDR), has officially responded to the termination of his contract. In a communication dated January 24, 2025, addressed to Labour Minister Cllr. Cooper W. Kruah, Palay acknowledged the decision to terminate his contract but requested the settlement of his outstanding payment.
“I acknowledge receipt of the termination of contract letter dated January 23, 2025,” Palay wrote. “I understand and accept the decision to terminate the contract as outlined. However, as per our agreement, I kindly request the settlement of the outstanding balance for the remaining five months, amounting to a total of USD $3,750.00. I would appreciate it if this payment could be processed at the earliest convenience.”
Palay’s termination, issued on January 23, stemmed from comments he made against Vice President Jeremiah Kpan Koung during the funeral of the late Senator Prince Yormie Johnson in Nimba County on January 18. His remarks, deemed inappropriate and disrespectful, drew condemnation, leading to his dismissal despite a formal apology he tendered to the Vice President.
In his apology letter dated January 22, 2025, Palay expressed regret for his remarks, acknowledging that they were “out of place” and “deeply disrespectful to the solemnity of the occasion.” He wrote:
“I understand that my words may have been perceived as insensitive, and for that, I am truly sorry. I take full responsibility for my actions and recognize the importance of being mindful and respectful, particularly during times of national grief. This incident has highlighted the need for greater awareness and sensitivity in my communications, and I am committed to learning from this experience.”
