BUCHANAN – The National Elections Commission (NEC) in collaboration with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) has gathered media stakeholders including, editors, publishers, and senior media practitioners in the port city of Buchanan, Grand Bassa County to review and adopt media code of conduct for elections reporting ahead of the October 10, 2023, general elections.
During the three-day (July 17 – 19) gathering, issues to be highlighted and discussed includes preventing conflict through professional reporting, signs and dangers of misinformation.
Also to be discussed are disinformation, mal-information and hate speech to 2023, gender-responsive reporting on women in politics, legal framework to NEC’s statutes, regulations, policies procedures, structure and mandate of the NEC, and hearing complaint procedures amongst others.
At the three-day gathering, facilitators include Henry Flomo; NEC Communication Director, Jefferson Massah of Internews, Cllr. Aagon Tingbie from the UNDP, Representative from the UN Women, Atty. Nathan Garbie of NEC, and Mrs. Siatta Scott Johnson of FeJAL among others.
