MONROVIA, (EXECUTIVE MANSION) – President Joseph Nyuma Boakai, Sr., has strongly condemned the recent escalation of violent conflict between Israel and Iran. He expressed deep regret that political and diplomatic efforts have yet to achieve peace and stability in the Middle East.
President Boakai emphasized the potential dire consequences of further escalation, warning of widespread suffering, deaths, and destruction on both sides and in neighboring countries. He urged both Israel and Hamas to abide by the terms of UN Security Council Resolution 2728, which calls for an immediate ceasefire, the release of hostages, and expanded humanitarian aid to civilians.
The Liberian Leader called on all parties involved to engage sincerely in dialogue and mediation, utilizing all available platforms to seek a permanent resolution to the conflicts in the region.
“The current escalation risks a wider regional, if not global conflict, which could compound the existing challenges faced by humanity, such as the climate crisis, global health issues, and economic instability,” he cautioned.
President Boakai further highlighted that the United Nations faces its greatest test of the century and must act decisively to prevent what could be a devastating war. He stressed that the UN was primarily established for addressing such crises and emphasized the importance of finding peaceful solutions rather than risking war.
