SENATOR AMARA KONNEH HIGHLIGHTS ACHIEVEMENTS IN FIRST 90 DAYS IN OFFICE

Date:

MONROVIA, LIBERIA – Gbapolu County Senator, Amara Konneh, recently shared a comprehensive review of his achievements since assuming office as senator. As we mark the 90th day of his tenure, Senator Konneh highlights the progress made over the past month. Here’s a summary of his accomplishments:

  1. Budget Analysis: Senator Konneh and his team analyzed President Boakai’s National Budget proposals with financial management professionals. They identified revenue variances and potential efficiencies in expenditure reallocations. Implementing 80% of their recommendations is expected to foster inclusive economic growth.
  2. War and Economic Crimes Resolution: Senator Konneh endorsed the War and Economic Crimes Resolution, underscoring his commitment to justice, accountability, and reconciliation in Liberia. This resolution seeks to deliver justice to victims of serious abuses during Liberia’s civil wars.
  3. Presidential Transition Act: Senator Konneh introduced the Presidential Transition Act of 2024 to ensure a smooth and transparent transition of power in Liberia. The act is under review by the Judiciary Committee and will be sent to the House for approval.
  4. Disaster Relief: Senator Konneh funded the Gbarpolu Legislative Caucus’ response to recent storms that damaged homes in Weasua Town, Gbarma District. This initiative provided crucial relief to affected households. His office has also investigated protests at the Bio-Chico mining concession and the Emirates Hospital, demonstrating commitment to local issues.
  5. Western Region Legislative Caucus: Senator Konneh was instrumental in establishing the Western Region Legislative Caucus to address regional issues and promote development in Western Liberia. As the Caucus secretary, he’s facilitating the finalization of a draft Western Region Three-Year Development Plan.
  6. Engaging Development Partners: Senator Konneh engaged with development partners to secure funding for integrity institutions and the Senate Public Accounts Committee, emphasizing good governance and accountability.
  7. Financial Transparency: He submitted a GAC audit on the Consolidated Account to the Senate Plenary, highlighting potential constitutional and legal violations related to an $83 million loan. He recommended a public hearing by the PAC, showcasing his dedication to transparency.
  8. Budget Execution Tracking: Representing the Senate PAC, Senator Konneh requested disclosure of all GOL operations and revenue accounts from MFDP and LRA before budget passage, aiding in budget execution tracking.
  9. Loan Agreement Reports: With Senator Dopoh of Rivergee County, he requested performance reports on all ratified loan agreements from the MFDP. This aims to evaluate the loans’ impacts on citizens and the economy, with reports under review by the Ways and Means Committee.
  10. Advocacy Letters: Senator Konneh wrote to the Pro Temp and Plenary, calling for an investigation into sand mining in Liberian waters by Chinese and Liberian partners, addressing environmental concerns.

These achievements underscore Senator Amara Konneh’s dedication to Gbapolu County and his commitment to enhancing the community’s well-being.
