MONROVIA, LIBERIA – The anti-impunity advocacy organization, Solidarity & Trust for a New Day (STAND), has voiced strong support for the Boakai-led administration’s ongoing campaign against corruption, describing it as a crucial step forward for Liberia. In a recent press release issued in Monrovia, STAND applauded the government’s efforts to hold both current and former officials accountable for corrupt practices based on legitimate audit findings.
STAND emphasized that the fight against corruption transcends individual interests and requires the collective support of all Liberians, irrespective of their ethnicity, politics, religion, or social background. The organization underlined the importance of prosecuting any government official—past or present—when there is evidence of corruption, praising the administration’s firm actions against former officials and urging similar measures against current ones where proof exists.
This advocacy group views the Boakai administration’s actions as a significant departure from Liberia’s historical tolerance of corruption, highlighting a clear commitment to justice and accountability. STAND called on all citizens, including political party leaders, to back these efforts, stressing that corruption, not the fight against it, poses the real threat to peace in Liberia. The organization urged the public to condemn corruption as a national problem that hinders the country’s progress and to hold those responsible accountable.
Recognizing the critical role of transparency in combating corruption, STAND encouraged the Boakai government to continue a comprehensive approach in its accountability measures. By demonstrating a steadfast commitment to transparency and accountability across all levels of governance, the President can foster ethical leadership and uphold these principles universally.
STAND insisted that the anti-corruption fight should adhere to the rule of law, treating all accused individuals as innocent until proven guilty in a competent court, free from political bias or unlawful interference. While acknowledging potential pushbacks due to Liberia’s entrenched corruption and complex socio-political dynamics, STAND encouraged all Liberians to rise above party zealotry, religious biases, and ethnic solidarity to unite against corruption.
The organization concluded by calling on all Liberians to support the unbiased fight against corruption, regardless of political affiliation, to ensure that accused individuals face justice based on substantial evidence. STAND asserted that true patriotism involves a commitment to equitable justice and the fight against corruption, which is essential for the nation’s peace and development.
