VIOLENT ATTACK IN PLEEBO: MAN INJURED IN CUTLASS ASSAULT

Date:

By Aaron B Nemah

MARYLAND CO., LIBERIA – A shocking incident occurred in Zone #7, where 27-year-old Francis Wesseh was brutally attacked with a cutlass by Benedict Swen, a fellow resident. The assault, which took place on July 23, 2024, has alarmed the community and attracted the attention of local authorities and the Liberia National Police.

Wesseh explained from his home that the attack was the culmination of ongoing tensions with Swen. He recounted that Swen frequently made threatening remarks, warning, “We will see who you meet in the community.” Despite previous complaints, Swen had been released after being taken to Gedetarbo Magistrate Court for his threats.

According to Wesseh, the attack happened unexpectedly while he was attending to his business. “I was serving customers and chatting when Swen approached from the opposite direction and attacked me with a cutlass,” he said. Swen had accused Wesseh of being the source of voices he claimed to hear on his phone, an allegation that added to the unpredictability of his actions.

Eyewitnesses reported that the circumstances surrounding the attack remain unclear, leaving the community in shock. Many residents are questioning what could have led to such a violent outburst. The lack of a clear motive has heightened tensions and concerns among local residents about safety and security.

Following the attack, Swen was swiftly apprehended and taken to the Liberia National Police Pleebo Detachment. He is now facing charges of attempted murder. The police have emphasized the seriousness of the crime and the need for a thorough investigation to uncover any underlying issues that may have contributed to this incident.

Swen is expected to stand trial at the Pleebo Magistrate Court. In the meantime, Wesseh’s family, friends, and the wider community are eager for justice to be served. They hope the legal process will provide clarity and accountability, addressing the broader implications for community safety.

Wesseh was initially admitted to the Pleebo Health Center for treatment of his injuries. Although he was released the same day, his condition has since deteriorated. Medical professionals are now urging for more comprehensive care to ensure his recovery, highlighting the severity of his injuries and the potential for lasting effects.

The attack has raised broader concerns about community safety and the effectiveness of existing mechanisms for conflict resolution. Local leaders are calling for increased efforts to address underlying tensions and prevent similar incidents in the future. The community is rallying around Wesseh, seeking not only justice but also measures to prevent such violence from recurring.
