LIBERIA – The standard bearer of the Collaborating Political Parties Alexander B. Cummings says he had a fruitful meeting with the ECOWAS Ambassador, Her Excellency Madam Josephine Nkrumah.
He said during the meeting on Thursday, October 19 in Monrovia, they again expressed concerns about election integrity and the need to protect the votes in the 2023 elections, as well as ensure the process is free, fair, and transparent.
“We also expressed concerns about the conduct of the census and the capacity of the National Elections Commission to effectively implement the biometric process. The Ambassador assured us of ECOWAS’ commitment to supporting Liberia’s democracy, providing technical support to National Elections Commission (NEC), and ensuring that the new timetable is adhered to.
On the regional front, according to the CPP’s standard bearer, they talked about ECOWAS’ transition from ECOWAS of States to ECOWAS of the People, which he said will focus on how the people are governed, economic empowerment, needs of vulnerable groups, and how protocols, treaties, strategies, and policies trickle down to the lives of the people. This new approach is certainly what is needed to impact and improve the lives of ECOWAS citizens.
“I truly believe that a people-centered leadership approach is key to developing any nation or region. To develop our country, you first have to develop the people and the people will develop the country.”
“We will continue to engage our diplomatic and development partners and all stakeholders to make sure that the rights, welfare, and wellbeing of our people are protected,” Cummings concluded.
