LIBERIA: ELECTIONS PROVISIONAL RESULTS PUT EFFL LEADER GONQUOI AT 8TH PLACE IN MARGIBI SENATORIAL RACE

Date:

MONROVIA – As vote-tallying for Liberia’s just-ended presidential and legislative elections progresses, provisional results announced by the National Elections Commission (NEC) for two days running, put the leader of the Economic Freedom Fighters of Liberia (EFFL), Emmanuel Gonquel at eighth place out of a total of eight candidates.

With reports from 27 out of a total of 144 polling centers in Margibi County now tallied, Gonquoi sits at the bottom of the listing of candidates vying for the lone senate seat of Margibi.

According to the NEC, the vocal leader of the EFFL has 237 votes, accounting for just 3.04 percent of the total votes tallied from Margibi so far.

Gonquoi’s political archrival, former Minister of Presidential Affairs, Nathaniel McGill sits atop the Margibi senatorial election list, with 2,621 votes, representing 33.6 percent of the total votes tallied at the moment, according to the NEC.

Recently, Gonquoi complained of being financially incapacitated to have run an effective campaign for the race for Margibi senate seat

At the time, the EFFL leader reported that his campaign for senator of Margibi County had hit the rocks, admonishing his supporters to continue to be hopeful.

“We must all keep hope by keeping the fighting spirit in us alive,” said Gonquoi, who, in spite of the financial constraints facing him that posed a logistical challenge to his campaign, warned citizens of Margibi against electing McGill as their senator.
