TUBMANBURG, BOMI COUNTY – On Saturday, April 20, 2024, President Joseph Nyuma Boakai convened an assembly of members of the House of Representatives aligned with the Rescue Mission of the Ruling Unity Party, along with a team of UP leaders and strategists. The gathering took place for a one-day Executive-Legislative Agenda Setting Retreat in Tubmanburg, Bomi County.
The primary goal of the meeting was to discuss and align on a coordinated and effective path towards achieving critical national development goals.
Opening the session at Bomi City Hall, President Boakai emphasized key themes from the Agriculture Road Rule of Law Education Sanitation & Tourism (ARREST) Agenda. He stressed the importance of robust messaging and encouraging other legislators to rally behind the call for nation-building.
President Boakai, also the UP Political Leader, underscored the importance of a more coordinated and purposeful working relationship. Such collaboration, he believed, would garner wider support to achieve the targets set out in the ARREST Agenda. He reiterated that this agenda is transparent and aimed at elevating Liberians from poverty to prosperity.
The working session saw active participation from over 20 members of the House of Representatives. They dedicated hours to discussing strategies for advancing key points in the legislative agenda and the broader development goals of the government.
As the day concluded, the participants issued a joint resolution. This resolution, signed by representatives of the three parties, affirmed that the ARREST Agenda aligns with the national development needs of the present time. They emphasized that collaboration, consultation, and a shared sense of purpose are crucial for the successful implementation of this agenda.
In their commitment to rallying support for the ARREST Agenda, the parties agreed to engage their colleagues in the Legislature and other sectors of the population. To ensure seamless coordination and communication, Mrs. Cornelia Kruah-Togba, the Deputy Minister for Administration at the Ministry of State, was recommended as the Liaison.
The joint resolution was signed by Representative Richard N. Koon for the Rescue Legislative Caucus, Acting Minister of State for Presidential Affairs Samuel A. Stevquoah for the Administration, and Honorable Ben Fofana, Unity Party Vice Chairman for Governmental Affairs & International Relations, on behalf of the Unity Party.
