PRESIDENT BOAKAI’S SIERRA LEONE VISIT STRENGTHENS LIBERIA-SIERRA LEONE PARTNERSHIP

Date:

FREETOWN, SIERRA LEONE – President Joseph Nyuma Boakai has embarked on a significant four-day working visit to Sierra Leone, hosted by President Julius Maada Bio. The visit marks a historic step in strengthening the deep cultural and historical bonds between the two neighboring countries.

Speaking at a formal address at State House in Freetown, President Boakai expressed gratitude for the warm hospitality extended to his delegation. He emphasized the shared heritage that unites Liberia and Sierra Leone and outlined the visit’s goal: fostering meaningful dialogue on pressing bilateral and regional issues.

“Today, we gather to engage in meaningful dialogue with my esteemed younger brother and counterpart, His Excellency Julius Maada Bio. I am optimistic that under your guidance, Sierra Leone will continue to thrive, reconcile, and foster even greater relations within our region,” President Boakai stated.

As tensions rise across the West African sub-region, the two leaders reaffirmed their dedication to promoting peace and stability. President Boakai introduced Liberia’s “ARREST” initiative—targeting Agriculture, Roads, Rule of Law, Education, Sanitation, and Tourism—and explored synergies with Sierra Leone’s “Transformative Acceleration Agenda,” which focuses on food security, youth empowerment, technology, infrastructure, and public service reform.

“The relationship between Liberia and Sierra Leone has evolved into a mutually beneficial partnership, enhancing socio-economic growth and strengthening our bilateral ties,” Boakai remarked. He urged the citizens of both nations to work together in charting a path toward shared prosperity, leaving no one behind.

Key topics of discussion included regional security, economic integration, and development cooperation. Both leaders pledged to advance regional unity through existing frameworks such as the Mano River Union (MRU), ECOWAS, the African Union, and the United Nations.

President Boakai’s visit concludes a pivotal chapter in Liberia-Sierra Leone relations, underscoring a shared vision for resilience, economic progress, and sustained peace in West Africa.
