CONTROVERSIAL PROPHET BENEDICT JEFFERSON TWEH MAY FACE GOVERNMENT CRACKDOWN OVER PUBLIC CURSES

Date:

MONROVIA – Prophet Benedict Jefferson Tweh, head pastor of Flaming Fire International Ministry, has come under government scrutiny for his recent public curses directed at Liberians. In response, the Government of Liberia has summoned him to address his frequent use of curses via his church’s radio station.

On Tuesday, July 16, 2024, during the Ministry of Information, Culture Affairs, and Tourism (MICAT) regular press briefing, Information Minister Jerelimek Matthew Piah announced that the government is considering revoking the ministry’s operational license and shutting down the radio station if Pastor Tweh fails to comply with the summons. This stern warning follows a series of controversial prophecies by the pastor that have drawn widespread condemnation.

In recent weeks, a video of Prophet Tweh prophesying to a woman went viral on social media, particularly on Facebook. In the video, the prophet incorrectly spoke about the woman’s deceased mother, which led to significant backlash and mockery from social media users. Prophet Tweh told the woman that her misfortunes in life were caused by her mother, failing to realize that the woman’s mother was deceased. When the woman informed him that her mother had passed away, the prophet was left speechless. Angered by the condemnation, Prophet Tweh retaliated by using his church’s radio platform to curse Liberians.

Minister Piah emphasized that the government cannot tolerate such behavior that incites negativity and divisiveness among the public. He reiterated the importance of responsible communication, especially by those in influential positions, and warned of serious repercussions if Prophet Tweh does not address the government’s concerns.

The situation has sparked a broader discussion about the role of religious leaders in Liberian society and the ethical boundaries of their influence. Many Liberians are calling for a balanced approach that respects freedom of speech while ensuring that such freedoms are not abused to harm the public.

The government’s decisive stance highlights its commitment to maintaining social harmony and upholding the values of respect and unity among its citizens. As the situation unfolds, all eyes are on Prophet Tweh to see if he will heed the government’s warning and amend his approach.
