MONROVIA, LIBERIA – In a significant address on Monday, April 29, Dr. Bhofal Chambers, the former Speaker of the 54th Legislature in Liberia, emphasized the importance of unity and efficient resource management for the nation’s progress. Speaking from his residence in Rebab, Montserrado, Dr. Chambers highlighted several key issues facing Liberia and called for a concerted effort to address them.
One of the primary points Dr. Chambers addressed was the need to avoid tension and polarization within the country. He emphasized that while President Joseph Nyuma Boakai has the constitutional right to appoint officials, it is crucial for all Liberians to work together for the common good. Dr. Chambers stressed that no individual or political party should claim a monopoly on appointments or resources, and urged all citizens to prioritize Liberia’s interests above personal or political agendas.
The former Speaker also drew attention to Liberia’s natural resources, including forests, minerals, and fisheries, and questioned the country’s progress in utilizing these resources for economic development. He pointed out that Liberia has been a part of the carbon credit arrangement since 2015, yet it lags behind other nations in benefiting from these agreements. Dr. Chambers called for a closer look at countries like Germany, Vietnam, Norway, Australia, and Botswana, which have successfully managed their natural resources for the benefit of their citizens.
The former Representative of Pleebo Sodoken District #2 in Maryland County also highlighted Liberia’s abundant natural resources, such as uranium, diamonds, gold, forests, water, iron ore, and fish. Despite this wealth, he noted that Liberia has not fully optimized their usage for the benefit of its people. Dr. Chambers questioned why Liberia has not followed the successful examples of other nations with similar resources, emphasizing the need for strategic and sustainable utilization of these blessings for the prosperity of all Liberians.
Furthermore, Dr. Chambers highlighted the example of Singapore, which transformed from a struggling nation in the 1960s to one of the world’s most prosperous countries today. He underscored the importance of governance and efficient resource management, citing Singapore’s success as a model for Liberia to emulate.
Dr. Bhofal Chambers concluded by urging all Liberians to work together in harmony, emphasizing the need for collective effort to realize Liberia’s full potential. He called on leaders to prioritize the interests of the nation and its people above all else, emphasizing that Liberia’s abundant resources should be utilized wisely for the benefit of all citizens.
