INCREASED GOVERNMENT TAXES ON MOBILE PHONE COMPANIES RESULTS TO REDUCTION IN VOICE CALLS AND DATA

Date:

LIBERIA – GSM operators in Liberia have secretly reduced packages for voice calls and data.

There has not been any major announcement on this new policy by the GSM companies or the Liberian Government.

However, sources told Smart News that the reduction of the packages for customers is a result of an increase in taxes on GSM service providers in the country.

It is alleged that the Liberia Telecommunication Corporation (LTA) has increased taxes on the companies; resulting in the automatic reduction of packages in voice calls and data, said a reliable source.

The packages were reduced without notice to the public. Under the new and reduced package policy, the 200LD data is no more 650 MB. It is reduced to 600MB, while the 150LD which was 1000 mb, is reduced to 450 MB.

The Liberian Government has not spoken publicly on the latest reduced rates; fearing backlash from Liberians, a source told Smart News today. Details will follow.
