MONROVIA, LIBERIA – Following a communication from the House of Representatives, an immediate investigation was conducted by Spoon Network, revealing a leakage of assets declaration dating back two to three years involving former chairperson Cllr. James Verdier.
The investigation disclosed that Cllr. Verdier had requested the assets declaration of five former officials: Former President George Weah, Former Vice President Jewel Howard Taylor, former Minister of State for Presidential Affairs Nathaniel McGill, former Finance Minister Samuel Tweh, and former Mayor Jefferson Koijee.
According to Spoon Network, the leaked information was a result of an email exchange between the former chairperson and the assets declaration officer, intended for assets verification.
During the House inquiries, Cllr. Alexandra Zoe, Executive Chairperson of the Liberia Anti-Corruption Commission (LACC), and her predecessor, Cllr. Kla Martin, appeared before the House to provide insights into the matter.
The decision to investigate was initiated by a communication from Rep. Frank Saah Foko of District #9, Montserrado County, requesting the House to invite the officials to explain the leakage of former President George Weah’s documents.
The revelation of the leaked assets declaration underscores the importance of safeguarding sensitive information and maintaining transparency and integrity in governance. Further actions are expected to address the issue and hold accountable those responsible for the unauthorized release of confidential documents.
