LIBERIA: LELA KERKULA RECOUNTS SHOCKING DETAILS ON FORMER IAA DIRECTOR BARTEN NYESWA’ DEATH

Date:

MONROVIA – In an exclusive interview with Spoon Talk, Musu Lela Kerkula, the woman claiming to be a girlfriend of deceased, Emmanuel Barten Nyeswa, Director General of the Internal Audit Agency (IAA), has come forward to shed light on the suspicious circumstances surrounding Nyeswa’s untimely death.

Lela’s interview on Tuesday, November 7, 2023 was very lengthy but clear- alleging senior government officials’ involvement in what she considered the murder of her boyfriend.

Lela explained that the officials had strategically targeted Nyeswa due to his refusal to compromise on two major audits – the audit of the Consolidated Account of the Liberian Government and the Covict-19 funds.

Lela claimed to have been present at Nyeswa’s house on the faithful night. According to her, she was awakened by friends who informed her that Barten had been discovered in the courtyard, lying unconscious on the ground. Shocked and puzzled by this sudden incidence, Lela said she questioned how Barten Nyeswa could have been moved from the bedroom to the courtyard without her knowledge.

Her account raises further suspicions about the circumstances surrounding Nyeswa’s death.

During the interview, Lela courageously named several high-ranking officials in the Weah government whom she believes are co-conspirators in the “murder”.

She asserted that these individuals allegedly orchestrated Nyeswa’s death as a result of his refusal to tamper with the audit reports. Lela also alleged that the police had repeatedly attempted to intimidate her when they were probing the death of her boyfriend, even going so far as threatening to indict her as the real culprit (murderer) of her boyfriend.

Lela revealed that prior to the incidence, Nyeswa had shared with her his concerns about people who were said to be after his life.

According to her, while Nyeswa actually believed the threat to his life at the time, he did not believe in the names previously suggested were behind the threat, as these individuals were reportedly close friends of his.

Surprisingly, Lela reveled in the “Tell it All” interview that all of the individuals named to be behind the threat were met when Nyeswa was rushed to the John F. Kennedy Medical Center-they were on the scene at the JFK.

One crucial incident mentioned by Lela involved Nyeswa handing an audit report related to the Covict-19 funds to Nathaniel McGill, who was then a senior government official-the then Minister of State. She explained that McGill was allegedly too busy at the time and asked Nyeswa to leave the report with someone else, which he refused to do. The following day, Lela said Nyeswa went back to McGill’s house and eventually handed the report to him.

She disclosed that there was a gathering of public officials, friends at the Calabash entertainment center on the Congo Town back road. There she said they met on a huge table drinking Dewar’s with Coke and ice. She stated that her boss from the agency she was working was there and lot was happening, but she did not feel good about the area and wanted them to go home. While they were going to their vehicle, she said a black vehicle was packed infront of theirs and another one behind. It took time to get the car removed to allow them go home.

Lela said Barten had informed her of missing one of the keys to his house; and he did not find it until the incident.

Lela’s revelations have stirred up further questions and suspicions surrounding the death of Barten Nyeswa.

It is almost two years since Barten’s death as Police investigation reported no foul play. And In her narration, Lela named several former and current Weah officials as co-conspirators to Barten’s death.

She stated that Barten was actually murdered and did not fall from the stair case as suggested. The balcony of the house is less than 9-12ft, which even a young child would jump from.

The names of the co-conspirators are withheld in this publication because we have not been able to contact them for their side of the story.

Lela said what shocked her most in the incident was that a brother of one of co-conspirators collected the two phones and laptop belonging to Barten and took them away. The laptop may have contained the audit reports.

Lela further explained that the brother after Barten’s death tried to impress on her to tell the police that Barten fell from the terrace and that when she refused to say that, he again tried to time link her to Barten’s death.
