MONROVIA – In a surprising turn of events, Prophet Key, a well-known Podcaster, has been released without the need for a bond following his arrest earlier today. The court, after considering brief legal arguments, deemed his personality and popularity as sufficient grounds for his release on personal recognizance.
Prophet Key, renowned for insulting females and using derogatory remarks on his targets was taken into custody on the court’s orders. However, his legal team successfully argued that his status as a public figure, combined with his voluntary appearance before the court, demonstrated his commitment to honoring any future court mandates.
During the hearing, Prophet Key’s lawyers presented evidence of his widespread popularity and influence. This, they argued, made him a recognizable and respected figure within the community.
The court, acknowledging the unique circumstances surrounding Prophet Key’s case, agreed that his reputation and standing within society made him a low-flight risk. Consequently, the court decided to release him without requiring a bond, a decision that surprised many observers.
In a recent development, the Liberia National Police (LNP) apprehended Prophet Key, also known as Nayapougma Oldpa Yeazeahn, following a legal order issued by Liberia’s Cultural Ambassador, Julie Endee.
The arrest took place today, February 15, 2024, in Monrovia, and Prophet Key was being held in custody at the Monrovia City Court, located at the Temple of Justice.
Earlier this year, Julie Endee, acting in her capacity as Liberia’s Cultural Ambassador, filed a lawsuit against Nayapougma Oldpa Yeazeahn, popularly known as “Prophet Key,” accusing him of criminal coercion, menacing, and disorderly conduct.
The arrest warrant was authorized by Magistrate Ben Banco in Monrovia on Monday, February 5, 2024. The warrant orders the immediate apprehension of Nayapougma Oldpa Yeazeahn, also known as Prophet Key.
The writ states, “You are hereby ordered to arrest Nayapougma Oldpa Yeazeahn, aka Prophet Key, and promptly bring him before the Monrovia City Court, located at the Temple of Justice Building in Montserrado County. He is to answer to the charges of Criminal Coercion, Menacing, and Disorderly Conduct, as alleged in the complaint and under oath.”
According to the official complaint lodged by Ambassador Endee, Prophet Key had deliberately and with malicious intent, made statements in a video podcast posted on social media in December 2023. In the video, Prophet Key alleged that Ambassador Endee had engaged in prostitution and had sexual relations with former President Charles Taylor.
The arrest of Prophet Key marks a significant step in addressing the allegations made against him. The Monrovia City Court is expected to hold a hearing on the matter to determine the next course of action.
The Liberia National Police continues to emphasize its commitment to upholding the rule of law and ensuring the safety and well-being of all citizens. As the legal process unfolds, both sides will have the opportunity to present their arguments and present evidence to support their claims.
