MONROVIA – The Liberia National Police (LNP) has denied any connection to an individual seen in a widely circulated social media video impersonating a police officer while allegedly extorting money from motorists. The suspect, identified as 51-year-old Abednego Senglooh of Paynesville Redlight Market, has been charged and forwarded to court.
According to the LNP, Senglooh was caught on video wearing a reflective jacket and falsely presenting himself as an officer. A police investigation confirmed that he had been posing as a law enforcement official in the Zone 9 Depot 2 area of Redlight Market. During questioning, he admitted to his actions, and the evidence gathered, including video footage, supported the charges against him.
Senglooh is being prosecuted under Section 10.31 of the Penal Law of Liberia, which criminalizes impersonating a public official with intent to deceive, cause harm, or obtain personal benefits. The LNP has strongly condemned his actions, stating that such behavior erodes public trust in law enforcement and will not be tolerated.
“The Liberia National Police categorically emphasizes that Mr. Senglooh is not affiliated with the police in any capacity,” the statement read. “His actions are reprehensible and undermine public trust in lawful institutions.”
The police are urging citizens to remain vigilant and report any individuals attempting to impersonate officers, emphasizing the importance of public cooperation in maintaining security and trust in law enforcement.
