MONROVIA – The Inspector General of the Liberia National Police (LNP), Gregory O.W. Coleman, has assured the public that the investigation into the fire that engulfed the Capitol Building remains active and a top priority for law enforcement.
In a statement to the nation, Inspector General Coleman acknowledged public frustration over the perceived slow progress in determining the cause of the blaze, which destroyed parts of Liberia’s legislative headquarters. However, he reaffirmed the police’s commitment to uncovering the truth, ensuring transparency, and holding those responsible accountable.
“A few months ago, our beloved Capitol Building was engulfed in flames. A tragedy that went beyond the destruction of a structure. It was an assault on the very symbol of our national unity, democracy, and the values we hold dear,” Coleman stated.
He emphasized that while the LNP may not disclose every detail of the ongoing investigation, citizens should trust that law enforcement and the Joint Security are diligently following all leads to ensure that justice is served.
“This is not about blame. It is about justice. It is about holding those responsible accountable, no matter who they are or where they may be. No one involved in this act will be above the law,” he declared.
The fire at the Capitol Building, which houses the Legislature, raised widespread concerns over security and the integrity of national institutions. While initial suspicions pointed to possible arson, authorities have yet to disclose conclusive findings.
Coleman urged Liberians to remain patient and to continue believing in the justice system, assuring them that the investigation would not be abandoned.
“Justice shall prevail,” he vowed.
