MONROVIA – The Liberia National Police (LNP) has announced the summoning of several individuals for questioning in connection with the death of Emmanuel Barthan Nyeswa, former Director General of the Internal Audit Agency. Those summoned include former Finance Minister Samuel Tweh, River Cess County Senator Bill T. Twehway, former Health Minister Wilhelmina Jallah, and Mr. Trokon Williams.
Emmanuel Barthan Nyeswa was found dead at his residence on 72nd Boulevard on October 10, 2020. His death occurred shortly after the deaths of three other auditors within eight days: Albert Peters and Gifty Lama from the Liberia Revenue Authority (LRA), and George Fanbutu.
The circumstances surrounding these deaths remain unclear, raising concerns about the safety of auditors in Liberia. Nyeswa’s death is particularly mysterious, with reports suggesting he was at D’Calabash, an amusement spot, with friends before returning home after midnight.
In a statement on July 23, 2024, the LNP emphasized their commitment to a thorough investigation. “The LNP is committed to conducting a thorough investigation into the death of Mr. Emmanuel Barthan Nyeswa. We have invited several individuals who may have relevant information to assist in our ongoing inquiries. We urge anyone with additional information to come forward to aid our investigation.”
The police are focusing on Nyeswa’s activities on the night of his death and any potential links to the other auditor deaths. The LNP has assured the public of their determination to uncover the truth and bring justice to the affected families.
