MONROVIA, LIBERIA – Tensions are expected to escalate in Monrovia today as motorcyclists plan to stage protests in major parts of the city, targeting central Monrovia Capitol Bypass and some areas of Central Monrovia, according to sources.
The protest stems from disagreement with the Liberia National Police’s announcement of new restrictions on motorcyclists operating within the city limits.
Sources have informed Smart News Liberia that the motorcyclists also plan to target government vehicles attempting to navigate through their protest. Additionally, they plan to block the President’s convoy near the University of Liberia’s main campus today.
The source advised the Police to avoid direct confrontation with the motorcyclists, warning that they may evade the police by weaving through them with their bikes.
Last week, the Liberia National Police (LNP) announced new restrictions on motorcyclists operating within the city limits.
Following this announcement, a significant number of motorcyclists took to the streets to express their discontent and protest against the newly imposed regulations.
The motorcyclists argue that these new restrictions will adversely affect their livelihoods, limiting their ability to access transportation options in the city. Many rely on motorcycles as their primary source of income, and these new regulations could severely impact their ability to earn a living.
