MONROVIA – A son of former Chief Justice Gloria Musu-Scott, Nyowo Scott, has declared that his mother is innocent of charges levied against her in connection with the murder of Charloe Musu.
On 22 February 2023, Charloe was stabbed multiple times to death allegedly by an unidentified assailant at her family’s Brewerville residence, according to Cllr. Gloria Musu-Scott, who is considered the mother of the deceased.
Police in Monrovia, on Tuesday, in connection with Charloe’s murder, reportedly slammed ex-Justice Gloria Musu-Scott and three other members of her family with multiple charges, including “Murder, Criminal Conspiracy and Making False Statements to Law Enforcement Officers.”
But, minutes after the Liberia National Police (LNP) reportedly announced the charges against Cllr. Gloria Musu-Scott et al, her son, Nyowo, told reporters outside the Capitol Hill Central Police Headquarters, in Monrovia that his mother and others charged along with her are innocent.
“My mother is innocent! AC, is innocent, Aunty Gertrude is innocent, my family is innocent,” said Nyowo, who added that all his mother has ever done, is provide service to Liberians.
“All my mother has ever done is to provide service to the Liberian people. So many people have come from under her that she’s given back to this country, and here we are – that’s the way to say thank you, right? Why, because of politics?” Stated Nyowo, who inferred that the charges levied against his mom and the other members of his family by the police are politically motivated.
“What is this, politics? Find the murderer,” a somewhat bewildered Nyowo asserted, indicating, “Charloe was murdered and the murderer is out there and nobody is saying nothing.”
However, he averred that the time has come for something to be said about who Charloe’s real murderer is.
Talking about the charges, specifically regarding giving false statement Nyowo said, it’s funny, according to him, given that Charloe’s murderer is already known – someone he inferred as neither being his mother, nor the three others charged along with her.
“Listen, Liberia, you know who’s responsible for this. But the talk in the town is “man can’t talk all” – we’re going to talk all real soon, and the world will know very soon. We’re going to the next stage now,” said Nyowo, who noted that his family is fully prepared for the legal battle ahead.
“So now we are here – but you know what though, we’re taking it to the next step now. We are going to be playing on an even field and some of these people who’s been out there ruining, tarnishing my mother’s reputation, it’s about to be on now. The battle is where it is her playing ground, and our lawyers are ready, we are all ready,” he said.
He accused the pro-government Freedom FM radio station and its Manager, Abraham Wheon, of allegedly whipping up public sentiments against his mother and pressurizing the Government of Liberia, particularly its Ministry of Justice, to hand down an unfavorable investigative report regarding the Charloe Musu murder case against ex-Justice Gloria Musu-Scott, threatening that the Scott family would eventually take legal action against Wheon soon.
Recently, Wheon, acting as spokesperson, led pro-government protesters in a street protest demanding among other things, the clearing of the names of Monrovia City Mayor, Jefferson Koijee and an officer of the Monrovia City Police, Varlee Telleh, who were both accused of being complicit in the brutal murder of Charloe Musu.
Following Charloe’s ghastly murder, the disbanded Liberia Truth and Reconciliation Commission (TRC’s) Chairman, Cllr. Jerome Verdier, Sr., accused Mayor Koijee of being the mastermind of the young lady’s death, averring at the time that the Monrovia City Mayor allegedly hired City Police officer Telleh, with straight instructions to have sodomized ex-Justice Gloria Musu-Scott before assassinating her, inferring that the alleged assassin failed on the mission and instead, grimly took away the life of the young lady. Both men have, however, refuted Cllr Verdier’s allegations and claimed they are innocent.
Howbeit, the second of Cllr. Gloria Musu-Scott’s three biological children, Nyowo, lamented that the charges against his mother and the three others, have a negative impact, and that these charges have devastated the Scott family, and ruined its hard-earned reputation.
Asked if the family had any fears, Nyowo stated that they fear for the safety of those charged by the police.
“We fear for their safety. As women in this country, they need to be protected – we fear for their safety and their safety is in the hands of the national police in Liberia,” he stated.
