LIBERIA – The National Democratic Coalition of Liberia (NDC) profoundly applauds the government of the United States of America on the recent sanctions issued against some officials of the Liberian government, namely Mr. Nathaniel McGill, Mr. Bill Twehway and Mr. Sayma Syrenius Cephus for their involvement in ongoing public corruption and bad governance in Liberia.
According to the NDC’s press statement issued in Monrovia yesterday, says this sanction signifies the commitment of the international community on the side of the wretched Liberian people who are fighting corruption, bad governance, human rights abuses, and social and economic deprivation by corrupt Liberian government officials. The NDC hopes that the Global Magnitsky Human Rights Accountability Act will be applied to other Liberian government officials who are involved with corruption and human rights abuses.
The statement further stated that in the Liberian people’s fight to ensure good governance and a truly pluralistic democratic society in our country, the NDC wishes to express profound gratitude to all opposition political parties, mainly members parties of the Democratic ALLIANCE of Liberia (DAL), various advocacy groups, civil society organizations, and youth and student groups including the Student Unification Party (SUP) for the vigorous campaign against government-sponsored theft of public monies and public properties.
At this juncture, the NDC strongly urges the Weah government to request the immediate resignation of all sanctioned government officials or terminate their positions, immediately indict them and prosecute them for corruption, bad government, and judicial maleficence, the statement concluded.
