PAYNESVILLE, LIBERIA – Former Secretary of the Press Union of Liberia (PUL), Danicius Kaihenneh Sengbeh, has called on Liberian journalists to embrace innovative and responsible reporting on climate change and agriculture to drive policy change and enhance farmers’ access to critical information.
Speaking at a one-day seminar organized by the Liberia Agricultural and Environmental Journalists Network (LAEJN) on Tuesday, March 26, in Paynesville, Sengbeh underscored the media’s role in shaping public understanding of environmental and agricultural issues. The seminar, themed “Strengthening Agricultural Journalism in Liberia to Improve Farmers’ Access to Information,” brought together young journalists and media professionals eager to refine their reporting skills in these sectors.
Delivering his presentation on “Climate Change, Sustainability, and Agriculture: Journalistic Perspectives,” Sengbeh stressed the urgent need for accurate and impactful reporting on climate-related challenges affecting Liberia’s agriculture. Drawing from his experience as a journalist, corporate communicator, and media lecturer, he urged reporters to see their work as a tool for promoting sustainable farming practices and environmental preservation.
“I know firsthand the impact the media can have in combating climate change and promoting sustainable agriculture in Liberia,” Sengbeh said. “Journalism must be a catalyst for positive change.”
He expressed gratitude to LAEJN, particularly Estelle Liberty and Jefferson Togbah Massah, for organizing the event and providing a platform for knowledge-sharing. He also acknowledged the presence of seasoned media professionals, including veteran journalist Arthur Tucker, whose contributions added depth to the discussions.
Despite interruptions caused by power fluctuations, Sengbeh described the session as engaging and inspiring, reaffirming the media’s crucial role in advocating for policies that support farmers and protect the environment.
