TOCQUIE CRITICIZES NON-PERFORMING OFFICIALS, URGES BOAKAI TO TAKE STRONG ACTION

Date:

Maryland County District #1 former Representative aspirant in the 2023 General and Presidential elections, Stephanie Tocquie, is calling on President Joseph Boakai to ensure his administration does not tolerate underperformance from employees or ministers. Tocquie emphasized that Liberia cannot afford to continue with “business as usual” if the country is to realize the aspirations outlined in the President’s Inaugural Speech.

Speaking to journalists on Monday, June 12, 2024, in Monrovia, the Liberian politician and entrepreneur stressed that President Boakai should not give second chances to non-performing ministers, directors, and deputy ministers. “He should always keep their feet to the fire to ensure they perform diligently and adequately,” Tocquie stated.

She urged President Boakai to deliver on the promises made during the campaign period to secure a positive legacy in Liberian history. Tocquie noted that the previous Coalition for Democratic Change (CDC) administration allegedly damaged the fabric of the country, leaving significant work for the current government. She called on the Liberian people to be patient with President Boakai and his administration as they undertake the challenging task of national restoration.

Tocquie observed that, based on his experience in government and his campaign agenda, President Boakai has the potential to achieve significant progress for Liberia. However, she stressed the importance of giving him time to effectively manage the country’s affairs.

She also encouraged President Boakai to seek divine intervention as he prepares to lead the nation for the next six years, emphasizing the necessity of holding each government official accountable. “President Boakai should lead diligently by constantly monitoring officials who are not working in the interest of the Liberian people,” she asserted, adding that this approach is essential for Liberia to keep pace with other countries in the sub-region.

Tocquie urged all government officials to roll up their sleeves and work diligently for the benefit of the Liberian people. She believes that such commitment will create the conditions for the Unity Party to secure a second term in the next general and presidential elections.

Additionally, Tocquie praised the Liberia National Police (LNP) for their efforts in improving safety and enforcing traffic regulations across Monrovia and its surroundings. She noted that Liberia was previously known for its lack of traffic law enforcement, which endangered citizens’ lives daily.

She cautioned LNP officers to maintain professionalism and integrity while enforcing traffic rules, particularly the “wear your helmet” safety measures. “Do not accept bribes if we want motorcyclists to abide by the rules set by the government. This country must move forward in the right direction for the benefit of ordinary citizens,” Tocquie said.

Tocquie also commended President Boakai for signing the resolution calling for the establishment of a War and Economic Crimes Court in Liberia. She stressed that those who committed atrocities during the civil crisis must be brought to justice. “We should not pre-judge people on alleged crimes; it is the court’s role to investigate and prosecute individuals for their actions during the fourteen-year civil war,” she remarked.

She concluded by emphasizing the importance of doing the right thing for Liberia and future generations. Tocquie believes that promoting justice and accountability will enhance Liberia’s image in the international community and attract foreign investors to the country.
