UNITY PARTY OFFICIALS FACE EMBARRASSMENT AS NASSCORP REJECTS SECRET APPOINTMENT ATTEMPT

Date:

MONROVIA, LIBERIA – Unity Party officials faced humiliation Monday, when their clandestine attempt to install Cllr. Marvee Kanneh, the brother of Senator Gboto Kanneh of Gbarpolu County, at the National Social Security & Welfare Corporation (NASSCORP) was vehemently rejected.

Speculations had been swirling that Bong County Senator Prince Moye and others were behind this controversial appointment in the Joseph Boakai government. However, their plans unraveled when the authorities at NASSCORP, led by acting Director General Carmena Cephus Yeke, refused to accept the “illegal takeover” of Cllr. Marvee Kanneh as the new Director General, citing the lack of an official announcement from the Executive Mansion.

Accompanied by Unity Party officials, including party chairman Luther Tarpeh and Bong Senator Prince Moye as well as new commerce minister, Cllr. Marvee Kanneh presented a communication purportedly from President Joseph N. Boakai, announcing the replacement of Dewitt vonBallmoos  as Director General.

However, their efforts were swiftly rebuffed by NASSCORP officials, who insisted that appointments made by President Boakai should be publicly announced on the government’s official Executive Mansion website.

Madam Yeke expressed her lack of awareness regarding the new appointment and expressed the need to speak with Dewitt, the current boss who operates on tenure. It was revealed that Dewitt was on medical leave in the US, and Moye and Tarpeh had covertly attempted to remove him by secretly naming Kanneh as the acting officer in charge. Unfortunately for them, their plan backfired, resulting in a disgraceful rejection.

Undeterred by the setback, the Unity Party officials have vowed to rectify the situation by seeking President Boakai’s intervention. They have returned to meet with President Boakai, to urge him to address the issue and make things right in due course.

UP Officials’ Disregard for Supreme Court Order Raises Concerns and Embarrassment

In a stunning display of disregard for the rule of law, Unity Party (UP) officials went against a recent Supreme Court stay order on appointments to tenure positions. This action has elicited concerns and embarrassment from various quarters, including Information Minister Jerolinmek Matthew Piah. The officials’ blatant disregard for the court orders has raised questions about their commitment to upholding the principles of justice and legality.

The Supreme Court’s stay order, which temporarily halted all appointments to tenure positions, was aimed at ensuring a fair and transparent process. However, the UP officials’ decision to proceed with the appointment of Cllr. Marvee Kanneh as the new Director General of the National Social Security & Welfare Corporation (NASSCORP) demonstrates a troubling disregard for the judiciary’s authority.

Information Minister Jerolinmek Piah, has expressed deep concern over the actions of the ruling party officials, labeling them as both concerning and embarrassing. He spoke on a local radio. The Minister emphasized the importance of respecting the separation of powers and abiding by court decisions.

From a broader perspective, this episode highlights the need for a more comprehensive understanding of the importance of upholding the rule of law. Disregarding court orders not only sets a dangerous precedent but also erodes the public’s confidence in the justice system and the government as a whole.

As the repercussions of this incident continue to unfold, it remains to be seen how the UP officials will respond to the concerns raised and whether they will take appropriate measures to rectify the situation. The importance of respecting and upholding the decisions of the Supreme Court cannot be overstated, as it is the cornerstone of a just and democratic society.
