MONROVIA – Former ruling Unity Party (UP), has blamed the CDC-led government headed by former footballer George Weah, for the third attack on the home of Cllr. Gloria Musu-Scott, which led to the death of the former Chief Justice’s daughter, Ms. Charloe Musu, late Wednesday evening in the residential district of Brewerville, outside the capital, Monrovia.
In a statement released to the press on Thursday, Unity Party recalled that Cllr. Scott, who served Liberia as Chief Justice, Justice Minister, Chairperson of the National Elections Commission, Senator of Maryland County and Chair of Liberia’s Constitution review Committee, called on the Government of Liberia for security after the first two attempts were made on her life at the same venue but, according to the former ruling party, the Weah administration turned a blind eye in apparent support to the government’s policy as espoused by President Weah that “each one must be his or her own security.”
But the LNP announced on Thursday that Madam Scott, who is now under appropriate police protection, reported some days ago in a radio interview that her family had experienced several attempts from suspected burglars to enter her home at night, adding that such report led to an increase in police patrol in the area.
Howbeit, the UP maintained that the Wednesday night attack on the home of Justice Scott and the many others that have occurred over the last few years essentially indicates the Weah-led government’s inability to protect and defend the lives of the citizens of Liberia.
The UP pointed out that under the Weah administration, Liberia has turned to what it termed “a killer field”, noting that this is an indication that no one, especially individuals considered to be firmly critical of the failed policies of the CDC-led government is safe.
United Party argued that the Liberia National Police (LNP), which is funded by citizen’s tax dollars should not only sprint to active service at ruling party beret-wearing jamborees, but that the LNP must protect all Liberians regardless of their political persuasions.
The UP, which declared that it is saddened and also concerned over the attack on the home of Cllr. Scott, which claimed the life of the former Chief Justice’s daughter, indicated that in the wake of such occurrences, its Standard Bearer, former Vice President Ambassador Joseph Nyumah Boakai, along with all of its partisans, stand in solidarity with Justice Scott and her family during what the Party described as a difficult time.
The UP’s statement signed by its National Secretary General Amos Tweh, added that together with the Scott families, it is calling on the relevant security apparatus to ensure the perpetrators are speedily brought to justice.
“We join Justice Scott in the pursuit of justice for her family and the protection of others from similar pain and agony inflicted as a result of the obvious lack of security and the complete erosion of any active justice mechanism for victims of similar repulsive crimes,” the UP stated.
Meanwhile, the LNP announced on Thursday that it has begun an investigation into the incident that took place at the Brewerville residence of former Chief Justice Scott on Wednesday night, leading to the death of her daughter.
According to the LNP, preliminary findings from Wednesday night incident which occurred at about 9:30 pm, as narrated by Madam Scott, revealed that a man who was part of a crew she hired to carry out some construction work at her residence remained hidden inside at the end of the work day, while his colleagues had retired for the day.
The man, who former Chief Justice Scott said she had observed during the day as looking somewhat “strange”, attacked her family at night and killed one of her daughters when he was tackled, according to the LNP.
The LNP added that its preliminary investigation shows no evidence of a break-in, indicating that it is currently in search of the suspected robbers, urging that members of the public come forth with any information that will aid the police investigation.
