GBONDI TOWN – Ma Esther Peter, a single mother of two from Gbondi Town, Bong County, has received a life-changing donation after a social media appeal highlighted her struggles. The Martin K. N. Kollie Foundation (MKNK-F) stepped in to provide essential support, donating a brand-new sewing machine, a durable wheelchair, and five bags of rice to help sustain her livelihood.
Ma Esther’s journey has been one of resilience. Twenty years ago, she was involved in a hit-and-run accident that led to the amputation of both her legs. Despite her disability, she has relied on gardening and sewing to provide for her children, demonstrating remarkable determination. However, years of use had left her wheelchair and sewing machine damaged, putting her sources of income at risk.
Journalist J Titus Yekeryan brought her plight to public attention through a Facebook post, appealing for just $150 to replace her wheelchair. Inspired by her strength, the MKNK Foundation responded immediately, donating a $140 sewing machine, a $210 wheelchair, and $86.25 worth of rice. The assistance will not only enable Ma Esther to continue her work in sewing and gardening but also expand her business by selling rice in her community.
Expressing her gratitude, Ma Esther said, “I am happy more than anything else. I tell God thank you. I thank y’all for giving me this. Tell him thank you for me. I am grateful and happy.”
Martin K. N. Kollie, the exiled Liberian activist and founder of MKNK-F, reaffirmed the foundation’s commitment to supporting vulnerable individuals, stating that the organization will continue to give back with love, care, and humanity.
