PRESIDENT WEAH ARRIVES IN WASHINGTON TO ATTEND THE UNITED STATES-AFRICA LEADERS’ SUMMIT

Date:

Liberia’s President, George Manneh Weah, yesterday, December 11, 2022, arrived in the Washington, D.C. to attend the United States-Africa Leaders’ Summit. The US-Africa Leaders Summit is expected to bring 50 African voices to Washington. President Biden is expected to host the U.S.-Africa Leaders Summit from December 13-15, 2022.

It can be recalled July this year, the US Ambassador to Monrovia, Amb. McCarthy formally extended President Biden’s invitation to President Weah to attend the U.S.-Africa Leaders Summit.

Amb. McCarthy’s announcement underscores the value the United States places on collaboration with Africa on the most pressing global challenges and opportunities, as well as the Biden Administration’s commitment to revitalizing global partnerships and alliances.  The Summit will reinforce ties with African partners, like President Weah, based on principles of mutual respect and shared interests and values.

The United States Government expects to engage a wide range of African and U.S. stakeholders to illustrate the breadth and depth of American partnerships with African governments, businesses, civil society, and citizens — partnerships based on dialogue that harness the ingenuity and creativity of our peoples.

The convening of the Summit is based on President Biden’s belief that U.S. collaboration with African leaders as well as civil society, business, diaspora, and youth leaders are essential to tackling shared challenges and seizing opportunities, including increasing sustainable food production, combatting the COVID-19 pandemic, responding to the escalating climate crisis, building a strong and inclusive global economy, providing life-saving humanitarian assistance, and strengthening global norms, institutions, and the rule of law.
