MONROVIA, LIBERIA – The National Public Health Institute of Liberia (NPHIL) has announced that the Disco Hill Ebola Victim Burial Cemetery, located along the Roberts International Airport (RIA) Highway, will be open to the public on March 12, 2025, from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. in observance of Decoration Day. This initiative provides family members and loved ones of the Ebola victims an opportunity to honor and decorate the graves of those who lost their lives during the Ebola outbreak.
As the nation commemorates the lives lost to the deadly virus, NPHIL has put forward a set of guidelines for visitors to ensure a respectful and peaceful atmosphere during the visitation. The public is encouraged to maintain decorum, with strict prohibitions on loud noises, fighting, or any disruptive behaviors. Additionally, to preserve the solemnity of the occasion, photography and videography are not permitted within the cemetery grounds.
In a bid to maintain the sanctity of the site, NPHIL has also banned smoking and alcohol consumption on the premises. Visitors are advised to report any lost items to the cemetery staff, who will properly document them for recovery.
The cemetery, which serves as the final resting place for many who perished in the Ebola crisis, is also setting an age limit for visitors. Children under the age of 10 are not permitted to visit the site.
NPHIL has expressed its gratitude to the public for their cooperation and adherence to these guidelines, emphasizing the importance of preserving the dignity of the victims and the solemnity of the occasion.
This public service announcement is issued by the NPHIL Communication Division.
